Divinity: Original Sin 2 doesn't include 'classes,' per se. When you make a character, you can choose a customizable class preset that gives you points in a couple combat abilities, and this determines the spells and special attacks you can start the game with. As you level up, you can continue putting points into those starting abilities, or branch out into any area of magic or fighting you like. Before you've found some skill books, it can be hard to know where you want to put points.

What if you discover a great skill that requires a point in Huntsman, but you've put all your ability juice into Necromancer? Not knowing what's ahead can stifle early progress with indecision, so this guide will help you plan for multiclass builds that make for a synergistic party.

Rather than breaking down your decisions by class preset, I've focused on the abilities themselves, as they can be mixed and matched however you want to build your own class. For each, I've given a brief preview of the sorts of skills you'll find, and suggestions for what to pair them with in the same character or others in your party.

At the end of this article, I discuss weapon types and summarize the decisions you need to make as you progress. Effect: Increases all Physical Damage you deal. For a warrior-healer Paladin type, Hydrosophist is a good pairing. With Warfare and Hydrosophist, you can focus on equipping physical armor, and use water spells to buff your magic armor when needed. You'll also be able to heal vitality, and freeze enemies for crowd control. The abilities Cleanse Wounds and Mass Cleanse Wounds, which restore vitality and remove many negative statuses, require points in both Warfare and Hydrosophist. If you want to avoid splitting your attribute points between Strength and Intelligence, use a water staff.

The Inquisitor preset pairs Warfare with Necromancer. Necromancer abilities deal Physical Damage, making Warfare immediately useful. What Build do I use? Since the game is extremely difficult this has come much more into focus than one would expect. In this Build Guide were going to cover one of my personal favorites: Death Knight.

The Death Knight is a popular well-known Build around the community, and it uses a mix of Warfareand Necromancer Skills. The reason Necromancer synergizes well with melee characters is because most of its Skills are resisted by Physical Armour and some have short range making them slightly less useful to Rangers.

Characters who utilize this skill line will also be able to heal themselves for a good amount of Vitality quite regularly, which is great because you should be taking more damage as a melee character. Note that any Race can play this Buildthere is no obvious choice.

This is an example of a level 14 Death Knight. I use a Two-Handed weapon and focus a bit more on Strength than Constitution for extra damage. You can see I have a huge Vitality pool from Picture of Health, making me nearly unkillable, even with not a whole lot of Armor.

Increase Necromancer if you want to do more healing. When making a Death Knight build you really only need to focus on a few Attributes. First is Strength. Secondly there is Constitution. Constitution is very important for a Death Knight because you want to get hit, but not die.

This Attribute will provide some leeway by increasing your max HP, allowing you to take hits and then heal through Necromancer Skills and dealing damage.

I recommend splitting the distribution of these Attributes in roughly ratio. You can put a few points into Memory as needed. Strength will not only increase your damage directly, but it will help you pass some persuasive checks as well as move very heavy objects not otherwise possible. Constitution is important for every character, much more so than in the first game.

This means that you will have much more Physical Armour than Magic Armouras Strength-based Armour is skewed heavily towards physical protection.

This is perfectly acceptable for this Buildbecause it is harder to be CCed by elemental effects than physical ones, an you will constantly be replenishing Magic Armour. You can also acquire gear like Amulet of the Deep that grants immunity to things like Stunned or Frozenwhich is very useful.

One of the hardest parts about making a Build in Divinity: Original Sin 2 is getting your Abilities distribution correct. For this build you want to shoot for 10 points into Warfare and 2 in Necromancer.

This will maximize the damage of your Skillsboth Warfare and Necromanceras well as allow you to use the needed Necromancer Skills for a Death Knight. You can of course add more points into Necromancer to increase your healing, but none past 2 are needed for the use of the necessary Skills.

Necromancer is a very versatile Ability and it never hurts any character to have a few points into it. It works with Undead and is not affected by the Decaying status effect.What are builds, you ask? So, what kind of build should you use? That depends on a lot of factors - different people do well with different builds. Not only can you summon this gigantic incarnate, you can also do heavy attacks yourself!

This build combines summoning, warfare, and pyro skills to pack a punch. The key to this build is the master of sparks spell, which sends flaming sparks flying during melee attacks. Another important part is your incarnate, which you should summon in flames.

The great thing about rogues is that they can go in for the kill and then sneak out, and this build helps you do that even better. It focuses on scoundrel skills, warfare skills, finesse, and wit so that rogues can do massive critical hits. It also helps that elves have flesh sacrifice as a natural ability, which makes this build do even more damage.

Are you a pyromaniac? Do you like making things explode? The pyro skills in this build will let you burn the battlefield to a crisp, while your geomancer skills give you the option to make it explode. You can grow horns, tentacles, and wings, and even turn your opponents into chickens! Though this two-handed build deals a great amount of damage, it also makes sure that your character lives to see their enemies fall.

Do you like using spells to cause mass destruction? If so, this build might be the one for you. Here we have another build that involves summoning. This one is especially great fordoing ranged attacks from afar, while your incarnate deals the melee attacks.

With different types of elemental arrows, this build can seriously damage magic armor, but it can also do physical damage if needed.Divinity: Original Sin 2 builds are incredibly varied thanks to the robust skill system found within the game.

No matter what build you go for, you need to remember to put enough points into memory to stay alive. Other than that, these builds are all focussed on a single attack stat; that way, you can get the most damage possible out of each attack. You use a combination of Rain, Winter Blast, and Electrical Discharge to make sure your foes are always falling over or stunned. Then you chip away at them with a vast array of different spells.

A classic rogue build that is all about taking out one target at a time: rather than worrying about the entire fight. Simply Backlash behind a target before laying waste to their health with a huge array of different skills.

The aim of this build is to never be in the fight yourself. Instead, you'll be commanding your summon to draw aggro while you take out enemies from afar. From there, you can use skills like Tactical Retreat and Pin Down to make sure nobody can follow you, before taking out everyone in sight. Perhaps the most peculiar of the Divinity: Original Sin 2 builds on this list; this one is all about unrelenting Strength and a huge toolset.

With any of these builds, you could either co-op or even potentially solo your way through the game. With this build, you always want to be positioned behind an enemy for backstabbing and generally avoiding detection. On the attribute side, Finesse is probably a better idea than Strength. Don't discount Wits though, as you get a bonus to initiative and critical chance. For your ability points, you want to put your points into Scoundrel for the critical bonus, and of course Stealth for the sneaking.

On the skills, Adrenaline is a must for getting enough action points to kill with a backstab in one turn. Throwing Knife and Backlash also lets you deal backstab damage, while Chloroform can knock out an enemy at the end of your turn without breaking stealth.

If you go for a secondary ability beyond Scoundrel, oddly enough Polymorphing can be helpful, since it lets you fly around and avoid terrain or remove all negative status effects quickly. The Polymorphing skill Chamelon Cloak gives you two turns of pure invisibility without breaking stealth. Warfare isn't nearly as useful as you'd think, since many of the associated attacks aren't helpful for backstabbing and Scoundrel already gives you a bonus to Finesse-based attacks.

So long as you pick skills that don't break stealth and you have a weapon that benefits from the high Finesse, you can essentially cheese your way through any combat by staying hidden and then quickly backstabbing or knocking an enemy unconscious before they react. Getting items early that provide teleportation abilities will be a must so you have maximum mobility.

You will generally have lower armour ratings, since you are focused on staying hidden, meaning that status effects will hit you more often. The game is also a good deal slower and more tense if you are always sneaking and having to pay attention to line-of-sight cones. Rogue Assassin Build. Put either two points into the Necromancer skillor one in Necromancer and one in Warfare for the bonus damage. When you level up, place your combat points into Retribution.

For your weapon, you probably want a big two-handed weapon that does the most base damage possible with devastating criticals. From the Necromancer side, you absolutely want the Bloodsucker ability, which lets you heal from the ever-present pools of blood on the ground. You may also want to invest in the Leech talent to automatically heal from blood sources if you aren't going the solo route.

Mosquito Swarm is another one that both deals damage and heals. If you are mixing Necromancer and Warfare instead of straight necro, either Crippling Blow or Battle Stomp is the way to go. Your idea here is to always be healing yourself while reflecting damage back to the enemy. Every point in Necromancer means you automatically heal damage when you deal it, and each point in Reflection increases the amount of damage you automatically deal back to anyone who hits you.

In other words, just walking around getting damaged in combat lets you both kill and heal. However, this can be overcome by taking the Lone Wolf talent instead of Leech.

With Lone Wolf, each skill point is effectively doubled, which halves the amount of time for those skills to reach useful levels. Despite the name, Lone Wolf actually lets you bring along one companion in addition to your main character while still retaining all the benefits of the talent.

Necromancer Skills. Your archetypal holy knight, this build revolves around battlefield control. You should be dealing out decent damage, knocking down opponents for control frequently, and then healing your party when necessary. Hydrosophist and Warfare should be your ability picks, giving access to healing and armor boosting spells, in addition to the bonus to straight damage.

On the weapon front, either sword and shield combo or a two handed weapon focus compliment the build. The Paladin build is excellent for your main character because it overcomes a lot of the weaknesses of the five other origin companions. While you won't be flinging fireballs and creating poison clouds, you can gain easy battlefield control and ensure the rest of the party doesn't go down in flames.Divinity: Original Sin 2's complexity can be daunting at first, and not everything is explained in detail.

The good news is that a lot of early decisions can be taken back—you'll have a chance to respec later in the game—but just getting through the first few fights can be rough, even on Classic mode. You can initiate dialogue with non-party NPCs using any of your party members, meaning you'll have chances to experience some of their unique dialogue options if you want. When you recruit new party members, you have the option to assign them different class presets than their defaults.

If your character doesn't have any healing abilities, it's a good idea to request that one of them take the role of Cleric. Money is tight in the early game, so relying on potions to heal will make it tough to afford new armor and weapons. Original Sin 2's class system is very flexible, so don't worry if you'd prefer your chosen healer be something else down the line.

As a Cleric they'll get points in Hydrosophist and Necromancer, both of which support lots of cool, non-healing related spells. And you can completely change their specialization down the line and, say, build them into a rogue if you want. First of all, click on everything. You never know who or what is important in Original Sin 2 at first glance. If it isn't red, you can snag it without being attacked for stealing. Also, remember to complete your quests.

Even a simple thing, like talking down a few thugs, can result in earning experience, gold, and items—but you have to go talk to the quest giver to get your reward.

Check your journal to see if you have any outstanding quests to complete. All that said, money is going to be tight for a while. Quality armor and weapons are hard to come by in the early game. To help a little, check to see who in your party has the highest Bartering level, and make sure they cozy up to traders and get on their good side—even saving 20 gold here and there is worth it. If an NPC is marked as a 'trader,' you won't always be able to get to the trade screen through dialogue.

Also consider taking a Pyromancer along to neutralise the deadly pools of electrified water and ice with a fireball once you are finished with them.

Late-game additions — Ice Breaker adds an extra step to your freezing combo, exploding icy surfaces to deal extra damage, and Closed Circuit creates electrified clouds in a circle around you, giving you more resources to play with. Why hurt your enemies when they can hurt themselves… by hurting you? It makes sense when you try it, believe us.

Shackles of Pain is the X-factor here — it marks a target, causing it to take all the damage that you do. Charge in, mark the biggest, nastiest foes, then use Provoke to get its attention — every meaty strike it lands takes a chunk out of its own vitality.

Guardian Angel boosts this even more, as allies redirect their damage onto you, which gets redirected again onto your marked target. Death Wish makes use of your subsequent lost health with a massive damage boost.

Also consider throwing some points into Geomancer, Hydrosophist, or Polymorph for extra healing and armour regeneration.

The Armoured Masochist is best in a lineup of mostly ranged characters, so that it can command the attention of enemy melee units unopposed. Late-game additions — Last Rites provides a last-ditch resurrection spell at the cost of a chunk of your vitality, and Overpower allows you to strip an opponent of their physical armour.
